Wrapped around her finger...

Drew and I were both pretty aware since we found out that we were having a girl that he would be a sucker for her. And I happen to think it's adorable :)

My hubby is the best daddy ever. I cannot get over how much he loves his little girl. I love to watch her face when he comes home from work because she gets so excited to see him. She waves her arms like crazy and squeals with delight. It's possibly the cutest thing ever.

The other day I came into the living room to see my loves playing on the floor, having a daddy-daughter tea party!

Finishing off her tea with some banana

Thanks to my Aunt and Uncle (and Dayna too!) for getting Claire her first tea set for Christmas. Although, Drew and I now walk around with the tea pot song stuck in our heads all day long.

One little tea pot ready for some tea, two little cups, one for you and me! Three tasty treats, just enough to share, shaped like a circle, triangle, and square!

Oh my. I think I should go take the batteries out now.....

My First Christmas Dress

I mentioned a while ago that I made Claire's first Christmas dress this year. Well while we were in Portland for Christmas my mom pulled out my first Christmas dress that she made for me. We thought it would be fun to put Claire in my old dress and take some pictures to see the comparison.
Needless to say, poor Claire has my eyebrows.

Claire is about almost a month older than me in these pictures, but I'm pretty sure I was chunkier :)

7 Months!

It's that time again! Another month has blown past ( I'm still in shock how quickly January went by!). Someone asked me at the store the other day how old Claire was, and when I went to tell them "almost 7 months" it kinda shocked me. It was like Claire was a little baby in my mind until she hit 6 months, and now that she's passed that I feel like she is so grown up!
Why do I have the feeling I'm going to be a mess on her first birthday?

We didn't have a well baby visit this month, so I'm not sure how much she weighs but I measured her to be about 30" for height.

-Claire is sitting completely unassisted now. She usually sits about 10 minutes before she starts to get a little wobbly, usually because a new toy has distracted her.

-Claire has also discovered that she loves to stand! She is still very wobbly and no where near being able to stand for very long on her own but she thinks it's hilarious to hold our fingers and wobble around. We bought her a little push toy a few days ago that we push up against the couch (so it won't roll) and she loves to hold the handle of it act like a big girl!

-We started swim lessons this month. Claire really loves being in the water and kicking around. The program that we are in really promotes babies being comfortable with going underwater. They like the call them "dips" but really its a nice way of saying "surprise your baby by shoving them underwater!". Claire hates this part. She cries every time. So sad :( We've taken a break from lessons right now due to a scheduling conflict with the aquatic center but I think we're starting back up next month.

-Claire is wearing 9-12 month onsies, 12 month pajamas, and 9 month pants and shirts. She's also in a size 3 diaper.

-I think we are going to have a crawler soon! Claire can scoot herself backwards pretty well, but she is starting to get herself up onto her hands and knees and rock back and forth. Now if only she could figure out the whole going forward thing....

-Claire experienced her first now this month! There wasn't much, and she didn't seem to care much, but she experienced it none the less.

-Claire eats solids 3 times a day now, and eats 6 oz about 5 times a day. Needless to say she growing like crazy!

The Perfect Child

Hey have I ever told you that I have the perfect, most well behaved child?

I mean seriously, she never throws fits when she doesn't get her way.
See:

Oh yeah and she changes her own diapers and sleep 12 hours a night too.

(Side Note: We are currently working on the not throwing fits; any good mama advice is appreciated!)

Mustache Bash Baby Shower

I had the honor of hosting a baby shower for my dear friend Aleah this past weekend. Aleah and I have known each other since about 6th grade, when we met on a junior high retreat together!
Here we are way back in the day. Oh high schoolers...

Aleah is expecting her first little one in March; I can't wait to meet baby Max!

I was so excited to host this shower. I'd been pinning mustache and little man ideas on pinterest for months now and I couldn't wait to put them into action.
Here are some pictures of the day:
I bought the invites {here} and printed them at Staples. Shana also made the menu cards you see in the pictures below.

Some of the ladies at the shower
Jeanie and Claire; Shannon, Amber, and Jeanie; Kristin, Aleah, Claire, Me, and Robbin

Some of the food. Thanks to my wonderful mother for helping me get it all ready in time!
On the menu: Cookie Dough Cupcakes, Pasta Salad, Spinach Empanadas, Carmel Apple Cheesecake Dip and Chicken Salad Puffs.
The cupcake toppers were made from scrapbook paper, a paper punch, toothpicks, some cricut help, and lots of hot glue!

The party favors! I bought the glasses at the dollar tree and used my Cricut to cut mustaches out of vinyl. The paper straws can be found {here}

Here are some of the activities from the shower!
The mustache photo booth (which we never actually used; we were too busy catching up and talking!)
Guess the date game. I actually made Aleah a chalkboard to go in Max's room and everyone left their guesses for date, weight, and length on it, but alas I forgot to get a picture of it.
And of course the 'Baby things A to Z' game.

Thank you to my lovely parents who let me use their house to host the shower. And of course thank you to everyone who came! It was so great to be able to get everyone together and shower Aleah and baby Max with lots of presents!
Aleah, I love you and I can't wait to meet your adorable little man!

Sick

I had every intention of actually updating our blog sooner rather than later, but we've had a few minor set backs this week.

Claire came down with a stomach bug last weekend. It was pretty awful. She threw about 5 times throughout the weekend.
And I'm not talking like a little spit up. I mean full on, I just threw up an entire bottle, throw up. At one point it was coming out her nose and mouth.
My poor sweet babe :(

Then she gave it to me.

Luckily I think we are back on track and everyone is doing better!

Next up, pictures from the Little Man/ Mustache Bash baby shower I just hosted!

Some R&R

I wish R&R stood for rest and relaxation, but for now it's standing for Recipes and Resolutions.

I'm not usually one to make hard, fast resolutions, more like "goals".
One of my goals for this year was to try new recipes and make more of our foods from scratch.

I usually go through a phase of trying new recipes and foods, and then fizzle out and end up eating the same staple recipes over and over again. Claire's nap time has been falling perfectly in time for me to watch the Rachel Ray show. Seriously, my mouth waters just watching it. We've had one of her cook books for about 2 years now and we've only made a few things from it. I'm hoping to utilize it more this year!

Here are three of my new favorite recipes, all from pinterest.

Like I said before, one of my goals was to make more of our foods from scratch, I started this week with some homemade pita bread and hummus. Pita bread=success. Hummus= not so much. Maybe I need a different recipe.

You can find the pita bread recipe {here}
We used some of the pita bread as actual bread, then I took the rest and turned them into pita chips. Yummy!
Cut the pitas in half, then use a knife around the edges to separate the top and bottom of the pocket. I used a pizza cutter to cut the bread into triangles. Brush with a little butter and sprinkle with garlic salt. Bake at 325 degrees for 10 min.
Verdict: The pita bread is delicious, cheap and easy to make, but it is very time consuming (you let it rise/rest at least 3 times!).

Another new recipe we tried was {Chicken Enchilada Soup}.
I improvised a little bit since I didn't have bell pepper, jalapeƱo, or cotija cheese, and I added a little less ancho chili powder. In the end it still had plenty of spice to it! I did add a little pepper-jack cheese and sour cream to the top when I served it. So yummy! This will be a new staple soup in our house; and as a bonus it can be thrown in the crockpot on a busy night!

Oh and if you haven't already used {this} method for shredding your chicken, you should. It will change your chicken shredding life.

And my last, but possibly favorite new recipe (I've actually been using it for a couple months now) is {this} pizza dough.
This is our favorite pizza so far: Chicken Bacon Ranch

Not only does it taste great, but it freezes awesome! I love being able to make 2 batches at a time and stick the other three (each batch is enough for two pizzas between  Drew and I) in the freezer. I just pull one packet of dough out the morning of and it's thawed in the fridge by dinner time. I bake mine at 475 instead of the 500 degrees she suggests; I've found the crust is better that way. I'm going to be making my next batch with whole wheat flour (another goal is to eat better) and I'm sure it will be just as yummy!

Growing Pains: Separation Anxiety

We're dealing with some separation anxiety right now.

At first I thought it kinda cute. Like "aww my sweet baby just loves me and wants to be near me" cute. Now I'm realizing I can't get anything done!

It's usually fine when Drew is home, although she gets a little upset when I leave the room, but he can usually distract her for a while.

But when he's not home....
Holy. Cow.
Claire just wants to be held or have me in her line of sight all the time. Heaven forbid I leave the room to put something away.

For a while it was only bad at night, right before bed, but now it's all day. I'm wondering if this is part of the reason for her terrible sleep lately.

I know it's a milestone that almost all babies hit, but I am pretty ready for it be over and get my sweet little girl who can keep herself busy for a while back.
