A Seattle Weekend

We spent the weekend visting our friends Shannon, Byung, and Doug, who all live in the Seattle area. Shannon's grandma graciously let us use her beach house while we were there. It was so great to not have to worry about staying at a hotel with Claire! Our friends Kelsey and Matt joined us on Saturday, so we had a full weekend of hanging out with friends.
The house was awesome; right across from the water and on a great little street with lots of cute restaurants. We were really lucky to have such great weather too! We took a few walks down the beach, and went into downtown and walked around Pikes place and did some shopping.

Claire was such a trooper! She's not the biggest fan of being strapped into her carseat for long periods, but we made it there and back without any major meltdowns. And she slept great in the pack n play, even with her nap schedule being thrown off!

Here are a few pictures from the weekend

Someone has recently discovered the camera.
Okay, I had to include this picture. Claire has recently been tilting her head to the side and giving a very serious look when she's interested in something. Drew just happend the catch the look on camera while we were in Seattle. It makes me giggle just look at it!

8 Months!

This is a few days late, but we were in Seattle with no internet for the weekend.

On Saturday our little babe turned 8 months old!

She was weighed and measured about 3 weeks ago. The current stats are:
Weight: 20 lbs 3 oz
Length: 30.75" long

-Claire got her first and second tooth this month! Both front bottom teeth are still making their way all the way up but they are sharp and painful none the less. We had a few restless nights of sleep and some crankiness during the day but other than that, these first two haven't been too bad.

-We started feeding Claire more finger food this month and she LOVES puffs. We also started letting her feed herself with the spoon. This is a very messy process, but I suppose it's all part of the learning stage. We usually start with two spoons. I dip one in some food and give it to her to eat while I load the other one up. This cuts down on the freak out when I take the spoon away from her. She's a bit of a drama queen like that ;)

-Wearing size 3 (soon to move up to 4) diapers, and 9-12 month clothing. Sometime when we're in a pinch we use our 18 month tunics as dresses!

-Claire took her first trip to Seattle this month too. The long car ride was a bit rough for her, but she was such a trooper through all the driving and weird sleep schedules.

-Like I said last month, Claire loves to stand. She can usually pull herself up on our fingers with a little assistance but this month she discovered that her bottom dresser drawer is the perfect height to pull herself up on. It still usually take 10 tries before she's successful but she's loving her new skill. Here is the video of the first time:

This month has also brought on a lot of new sounds. Claire has discovered how to make "mama" "dada" and "baba" sounds, as well as her new favorite: blowing raspberries. I've found her multiple times in her crib (while she's supposed to be sleeping) blowing raspberries into her sheet. Silly little babe.

-Claire is still so close to crawling and every once in a while gets one little scoot forward but mostly still just scoots backwards.

Dancing Queen

Claire figured out how to dance this weekend!

Her teapot that she got for Christmas has a few different songs, and she loves all of them, but this weekend is the first time she's really danced to music. We usually clap along to the songs and dance like crazy people in front of her (It might help that we watch/dance along to the Ellen show everyday too!) and it's like it just clicked one day. Needless to say I think Claire dancing is possibly one of the most adorable things ever!

She gets a little distracted by the blocks at the end :)

A Yummy Mistake

If you've never eaten dinner at my parents house, or had the pleasure of eating something they've made, your seriously missing out.
They are the best cooks ever

For my baby shower, and then again for Christmas my mom made {these} amazing salted caramels. We were going to a friends house for dinner and I thought I would try to make these delicious treats. I called my mother (which I tend to do a lot when cooking, or heck even when grocery shopping) and asked for all her secrets. Her biggest advice was to be careful to not over cook them. Well lets just say I was a little over careful and definitely under cooked them.

Here is my really runny salted caramel

Well I decided that I didn't want to waste the caramel (it was still really yummy!), so I used my runny carmel to make some other sweet treats.

I still had more caramel left so I made some brownies and swirled the rest of the salted caramel in it.

This is the brownie recipe I use:

(I omited the chocolate chips this time since I was using the salted caramel. Also, this recipe half's really well)

  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Combine the melted butter, sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each, until thoroughly blended.
  3. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually stir the flour mixture into the chocolate mixture until blended. Stir in the chocolate morsels. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake in preheated oven until an inserted toothpick comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes. Remove, and cool pan on wire rack before cutting.

Amazing

When I was pregnant I loved reading other women's birth stories. In a way it was how I prepared for labor. Even now that I've had Claire I still love to read birth stories.
The other day on Pinterest I saw a link to a woman's blog with her birth story. Needless to say it was the most amazing, heart wrenching, and joyful birth story I have ever read. Since then I've been following her blog, and I have to say this woman is amazing. She is also coming out with a book next month call 'Bloom' and I cannot wait to read it!

 If your looking for a good read you should go over to her blog and read her {birth story}
(Be warned- you will need a tissue for this one!)
