Dreaming of sunshine

I've been dreaming of summer for a few weeks now, but every time we get a little taste of nice weather, I am reminded that I live in Oregon, where the rain seems constant and the sunshine scarce.

On one of those semi-nice days I had the urge to make Claire a little sundress. I've been trying to use up my scraps of fabric that I have laying around, and {this} tutorial was perfect for some fabric I had left over from a baby shower present.

What was even better about this dress, is that it only took one nap time to complete!

But we are of course back to rain, so alas this sundress has become a jumper with long sleeves underneath.

*Sorry about the terrible pictures. It's become ridiculously difficult to get pictures of Claire now that she is always on the move*

9 Months!

We have our 9 month well baby check next week, so check back for updated stats
Weight: 21 lbs. 15 oz (92nd percentile)
Height: 30.75" (Above the 100th percentile)
In the advanced areas for all her developmental milestones

That's right, I have a smart little girl :)

-Claire started crawling right after she turned 8 months. We are busy now! If she sees something she really wants, she goes for it, and gets there quick! It surprises me sometimes how fast she is.

-She is pulling herself up on everything lately. It definitely makes me a nervous mama, worrying about all the potential head bumps that come with this new, wobbly, skill!

-Claire usually naps twice a day. The first nap around 9:30 for about an hour to an hour and a half, and the second nap 1:30 or 2:00, and then bedtime between 7 and 7:30.

-Claire discovered a new sound this month as well. Her face had me cracking up; too funny!

-We've mastered waving this month. It's now Claire's favorite thing to do. She waves to us, people in the store, and sometimes just to her toys. It's too adorable! If you tell her 'say hi' or 'say bye' she knows to wave. Here she is mid-wave:

- Claire took her first trip to feed the ducks this month. The second time she was way more interested!

-Clare's been eating about 28-30 oz in a 24 hour period, and eats solids 2-3 times a day, with oatmeal before bed and snacks of puffs and other finger foods throughout the day. She loves vegetables (thank goodness)! Butternut squash, green beans, and mixed veggies are her favorites. The favorite finger foods right now seem to be puffs, black beans, blueberries, cheese, and banana, but surprisingly she'll eat almost anything. Except avocado....crazy baby!

-Each month brings new challenges, as Claire's attitude and personality get bigger. We are still working on throwing fits when something gets taken away that she's not supposed to have. We're also working on sharing. Obviously I know she's still a little young, but we're trying to start young, and tell her she can't just take things out of people's hands.

Miss Claire, you are such a joy and your daddy and I have so much fun watching you discover the world around you. Everyday that passes brings something new and exciting with you. We feel so blessed to have you in our lives!

DIY Easter Basket

A while ago I saw these super cute personalized easter baskets on, but they were almost $30! If Claire is only going to use it once a year, there was no way I was going to pay that much for it to sit in storage.
I went in search of a plain colored tin pail, but after looking at four different stores I still couldn't find one. Finally, I found one at Target for $5.00. It's not plain colored but I think the polka dots are even cuter!
I bought some orange and white vinyl and used my cricut to make the label and letters.
And just what do you put in a 9 month olds Easter basket you ask? That's a good question! I had no idea what to stick in there since she's not really ready for chocolate bunnies and easter eggs, so here's my list of random things we put in her basket:
-Owl sippy cup with a straw
-Fisher Price toy camera
-Beach ball
-Stuffed lamb
-The new Muppets movie (Daddy love's the muppets, so this will be their movie when Claire gets a little bigger)
-Peach yogurt melts (not pictured)

Little stinker decided to come help me....I think someone is eager to get into her new toys!

All together the bucket and vinyl only cost me about $8.00. Way better than $30.00 and shipping!

Quack, Quack!

We had a few spurts of nice weather here and there this weekend, so during one of them we decided to take Claire on a walk to the park and feed the ducks.

We have a little creek that runs along an elementary school right across from us, and there are always a ton of ducks out swimming. Well apparently lots of people feed these ducks, because as soon as we got close the ducks were all over us! Claire wasn't really excited, or upset, she just kinda sat on my lap and watched all the ducks eat the bread.

The pictures are a little blurry, but all we had were our iphones

There little guys were so close to us!

Take one. I love Claire's crazy face!
And....Take Two. A nice little family shot.

Pinterest Challenge

This summer Young House Love and Bower Power hosted a pinterest challenge. The whole idea came from the fact that those of us who love pinterest often pin a million things and never do any of them! I'll admit I haven't done nearly as many of the projects I've pinned that I would like to, but I have done quite a few.
The two blogs joined forces (with a few other blogs too) to host a winter edition of the pinterest challenge. Since I decided {here} that I was going to find new recipes this year, I decided I would join the challenge and do all pinterest recipes for a week.

Here is what our weekly menu looked like:

Result: DELICIOUS! Drew did this on the grill but the recipe does give instructions to do it in the over as well. She says it will form a paste but I found it to be more of a marinade.

Result: Drew really liked these! I thought they were pretty good but not as spicy as I thought they would be. I used a mexican rice mix rather than white rice with the spices she suggested.

Result: So-so. I thought the chicken would be really moist and delicious but it seemed a little dry. The fried rice was pretty good though!

Result: Really lemony, and Drew and I usually love lemon! The recipe says to layer the bottom of the pan with lemon, which I think is what made the green beans over lemony. Otherwise really yummy! I think next time I'll skip the lemon slices on the bottom.

Disclaimer: This is kind of a cheat since I combined bits and pieces of this recipe with {this} one too! I tried the ricotta stuffed recipe this summer and wasn't impressed with the flavor, so I used the basil and parmesan recipe for the filling and the 2nd recipe for the panko and baking instructions. It turned out really yummy!

We left for a weekend in Bend on Friday, so while it's not a dinner recipe, I did make a pinterest snack recipe!

Result: Yummy! At least I can assume so since Drew devoured most of them in a day ;)

Surprisingly a pretty successful week of new recipes. I always get so nervous to try new recipes, in fear that dinner will be ruined. I did warn Drew as the beginning of the week that we may being having take out if things didn't go well!

Why the delay?

Claire started crawling about 2 weeks ago, which is why there has been such a delay in posting! Life sure is busy with a mobile little girl!

As you can tell by the pictures, its hard to get this little one to sit still now that she has discovered her new found freedom.  These are the best two I got :)

A Picture Project

Last week Claire and I went to Portland for a few days.
One reason being this cute little man:
That's right, sweet little Max (who's baby shower you can see here) arrived on the 24th! Congrats Matt and Aleah, he is too adorable for words.

The second reason was that my grandma had asked me to come and help her with a little picture project.
Okay, maybe little isnt the right word.

A BIG picture project.
Case in point:
This wasn't even all the bins, there were still some on the floor and in hutches.

My grandma was wanting to get all the pictures organized and put into photo books. Well we ended up only getting through about three bins, but it was so much fun to look through all the old pictures of family members.

Here we are mid process. Claire ended up taking a really long nap during this time, which was awesome! I don't think we would have gotten nearly as much done with her 'helping'.

My grandma and grandpa's high school graduation pictures. Seriously, are they not like the best looking people you've ever seen? They remind me of Ken and Barbie!

We even found some of my pictures. These are some of less embarrassing ones. Let's just say if my grandma ever wanted to blackmail me, she would have lots of terrible pictures to do it with!

Oh, and on Thursday it snowed about 2 inches at my grandparents house. I didn't bring any snow clothes for Claire so we just stayed inside, but she sure loved looking out the window at it all!

Side note: Claire also crawled her crawl/steps/scoots (not really sure what you would call it!) while we were there. Don't worry there's a whole other post coming about that one!

Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for hosting Claire and I for a few days. It was great seeing Claire get to interact with her Papa and Nana (or Gigi as I know you love to be called. hehe)
