The Great Outdoors

We had lofty plans last year to go camping with Claire (yes, as in camping with a newborn), but alas, living every other week at my parents and our crazy travel schedule somewhat prevented that. Well we finally made it out camping again!

Growing up, every summer we had an annual family campout with my mom's side of the family. As everyone started to get busier with life and family started to move to various parts of the country the campouts became every other year. It's been three years now since our last one, so we were a little overdue!

I will say I was a little worried about camping with a one year old. My biggest concern?
How the heck was I going to get Claire to nap and sleep well in a bright tent with a campground full of noises?
Well as usual my little girl surprised me and slept awesome! We brought her sound machine to help drown out some of the other nosies and I think she was so exhausted from playing with all her second cousins, exploring, and playing in the dirt, that she couldn't help but crash as soon as we laid her down.

Here's what each day looked like for Claire:

Of course every good camping day starts out with coffee
(don't worry the cup is empty!)

Then some scrambled eggs with Grandma...
...and a little play time with Grandpa's truck.
Claire was loving the chrome on the truck, as it made for a nice make shift mirror

And after all the playing a girl needs to take a little break.

A walk with Daddy

Is there anything cuter than a girl in carhartt overalls and converse?!

All that exploring leads to a nap in the tent.

Wake up and off to the playground with Krista

Updated 12 month post

Claire had her 12 month check up on Wednesday. Since we recently switched insurance for Drew's new job, this was our first appointment with the new doctor. Other than the 5 shots, the appointment went pretty smoothly. Claire weighs 23 lbs 16 oz and is 32" long, which puts her in the 80th percentile for weight and off the chart for height. Since Claire dropped from the 92nd to 80th percentile in weight, we will be heading back to the doctor in 4 weeks for a weight check just to make sure that nothing is going on. The doctor said she is not concerned for now, and that we should continue doing what we're doing, but it's always good to double check. I know that it's probably nothing, but extra prayers are always welcome :)

Wordless Wednesday: 5 shots later...

The 4th, and beyond!

We have had a packed full "weekend"! Drew had the fourth of July off, so after Claire's nap we headed over to a BBQ with our friend Eddie and Laura, who's little girl Ruby, is 4 days older than Claire. We had never been able to hang out with the babies before and it was so much fun watching them interact and see their different personalities.

Ruby is too cute; I'm a little jealous of the adorable rolls she has, Claire is such a skinny minny!

The girls played in the pool together for a bit before the bed time meltdowns started.

Claire did have a swimsuit on at one point. We took her out and got her undressed to dry her off and she made a quick escape back to the pool!

Thursday night Drew and I went and saw the new spiderman movie at Cinetopia since our groupon was about to expire. Thanks mom for watching Claire :) Then after we got home, Drew's parents came to stay the weekend with us.

Friday we planned to go berry picking with Drew's family while he was in Corvallis working on some thesis stuff, but at the last minute we ended up staying home while the others went to berry pick. The farm was an hour away from our house, and I knew Claire wouldn't last long after an hour car ride there and back!

Saturday was Daylan's bridal shower, and then that evening we had our neighborhood potluck. Sorry I don't have any pictures, I was either busy enjoying my time without a baby, or I was busy chasing a baby around :)

Sunday we went to a BBQ picnic with my parents church. Claire was loving watching all the big kids run around and play. You can tell the poor girl just wants to be able to keep up!

Monday night (I know, not technically the weekend) our friends Tommy and Katie got engaged! We had all planned to go to the airport to document the occasion but Katie's flight kept getting delayed so I stayed home and put Claire to bed.

sorry about the terrible airport lighting!

Tommy gathered quite the crowd of strangers when they saw his sign!

The happy engaged couple!

Needless to say we all slept like rocks after our crazy weekend!

Naked Playtime

We have the had the craziest 'weekend' (Wednesday through Sunday), and I'm hoping to get pictures and a post written on it soon, but until then here are a few pictures to tide the family over :)

Poor little babe had a reaction to some raspberries she ate, and ended up with a horrible diaper rash, thus leading us to some naked playtime.

Thank goodness for hardwood floors! Diaper free playtime is much less stressful this way.
