A few weekends ago (yep, I'm that behind!) we dedicated Claire and Hunter at church.
When Claire was a baby we were 'church shopping' and didn't really feel at home in any one church, so we never dedicated her. When we moved back to Portland we tried a few other churches in the area but eventually settled down at Cornerstone, my home church and Drew's uncles church. We are loving being a part of such a wonderful church family!

So after Hunter was born I talked with Drew about his thoughts on dedicating the kids, and we went ahead and emailed his uncle Barry (our pastor) about setting it up. It just so happened that Drew's cousin Blake (Barry's son) was getting married in about a month, which meant that Drew's grandparents would be visiting from Alaska, so we decided to dedicate the kids the Sunday after the wedding so they would be able to be there. It was such a blessing being able to be surrounded by family as we dedicated the kids.

Here is the video if you're interested:

Claire was pretty amused with the whole thing. She kept telling me that she wanted to go play with toys in the nursery haha! I also had to keep her from knocking the monitor over at one point because she was so amused with being able to see pictures of herself on the monitor.

Here are the slides that you can't see in the video

We feel so blessed to be raising our children in church with such strong leaders, and other families that we have so much respect for.

6 Months!

Half a year?? How did this happen?

Here are Hunter's stats from his 6 month well baby check.

Weight: 23 lbs 7 oz (above the 100th percentile)
Height: 29.5" ( above 100th percentile)
Head Circumference: 17.99" (97th percentile)

We have a very healthy (aka LARGE) baby boy! The doctor said as long as he's still active and meeting milestones she's not concerned about his weight.

-Hunter is still working on sitting by himself. He can sit for 10-20 seconds before he starts to topple over. The doctor said it may take him longer to be stable since he's on the chubby side ;)

-Still not teeth, but we aren't surprised since Drew, Claire, and I all got our teeth late.

-He LOVES to roll! Seriously, you set this kid down and he is off in a flash. Needless to say this has lead to us finding him in some unusual spots:
Rolled himself right into the toy shelf....
 ...and under the Christmas tree....
....and of course into the bathroom.

-Hunter has been trying all sorts of new foods this month as well! We've been doing a very tiny bit of baby led weaning with solids. He still eats mostly purees but I've been trying to be better about letting him explore real foods. We never really did that with Claire and she is a horribly picky eater, so we're hoping to combat some of that early on with Hunter if we can.
Left to right from the top: Clementine, carrot stick for teething, waffle, and a wheat teething biscuit.

- I think it's safe to say we had our first little fit this month. Hunter has decided he loves paper! We were at Lowe's and I stupidly let him hang on to a paint chip. When I looked down he was disintegrating it in his mouth, so I took it away, and it was like the world ended! He's gotten a hold of paper a few other times (thanks to his big sister) and has had the same reaction every time we take it away. I guess you don't get between a boy and his paper.

-Hunter took his first trip to a Christmas tree farm this month, but sadly, between balancing a baby, a toddler, a chain saw, and two trees we left with zero pictures. Oh well, maybe next year...
He is however enjoying the tree now that we have it home and all lit up!

-Night time sleep is slightly better, but still not great. We have to feed him before we go to bed at 10:00ish and then he usually wakes up once around 3:30-4ish to eat again. Naps are still about the same, and only last about 45 minutes, which is an improvement over the 30 minute naps from last month.

Overall, another healthy, happy month with this little guy!

Bend Trip

Like I mentioned in Hunter's 5 month post, we took our first trip to Bend to visit Drew's parents since Hunter was born.

I was not looking forward to the car ride with a baby and a toddler, but I was pleasantly surprised on the way over! Claire watched Peter Pan on my phone and Hunter slept and just played quietly with his Sophie giraffe. We had no crying the entire way there!

On Saturday we went to a pumpkin patch outside of Bend with Grandma and Grandpa. This was Claire's second time to the pumpkin patch this year, and she seemed just as fascinated as the first time. Hunter seemed just as enthused too haha

They had free face painting, so Claire chose a pumpkin for her face. She was so excited about it! She will still randomly stop and say "Oh no! My pumpkin patch face is gone!" Poor girl, I think she thought it would last forever.

We spend the rest of the weekend just hanging out with Drew's parents and relaxing.

We left after church on Sunday and I was a little over confident on how the trip home would be. I mean, the first time was a piece of cake, so why wouldn't it be the same?
Wrong! So, so wrong.

Claire decided she forgot how to nap in the car, and since we left at nap time it was melt down city on the ride home. She did okay for the first half, but for about the last hour our car ride went like this:

We figured there was nothing we could do but laugh it off and get home as fast as possible.
Needless to say, it was an early bedtime for Claire that night!

We had our first real, 'trick-or-treat our own neighborhood' halloween this year.
It's so fun to be in a neighborhood with so many kids! I should probably take this moment to remind myself that we are going to need WAY more candy next year.
Seriously, we were out of candy by 7:45pm and we were gone for an hour trick or treating ourselves. So many kids!

Claire was an indian this year. This costume was made by my grandma for my mom when she was little, then I wore it, and now Claire; so fun to see it be passed down the generations!
I'm pretty sure she was saying "trick or treeeeaaattt!" in this picture.

I don't know why, but I had a huge urge for Hunter to be an adorable chubby lion this year. We lucked out and Drew's cousin Andrea had one we were able to borrow. Thanks again Andrea!

I could seriously kiss those chubby lion cheeks all day long!

This was the most successful picture we got of the two of them. Hunter insisted on doing his signature back arch to get away from Claire. Oh well, maybe next year...

Claire had such a fun time going from house to house collecting candy! She kept yelling after every house "look, I got more candy!". We only did a small loop around our neighborhood since it was cutting it close to bed time. When we got home we were greeting kids at the door and trying to get Hunter fed, that by the time we turned around Claire had shoved at least three pieces of candy in her mouth!

After we confiscated the candy from Claire she helped us pass out candy to the rest of the trick or treaters. Every time the door bell rang she yelled "Trick or Treat!"; too bad she wasn't that enthusiastic when we were actually out trick or treating!

It was so fun watching her trick or treat this year, and admire all the other kids in their costumes!
We're potty training this week so the candy is coming in handy as small rewards, and Claire is already asking about trick or treating again :)

5 Months!

5 Months?? How did this happen?

Little man is weighing in around 21 lbs. and is one healthy little boy!

-Hunter is rolling like crazy! I mean, I can't leave this boy anywhere. I'll put him down in one spot and I come back and he's all the way across the room and turned the other way.

-We had our first trip to bend with Hunter this month. I was totally amazed that he did so great on the car ride over (no crying at all!) and he even did pretty decent on the way home too!

-Wearing 12 month clothes and size 4 diapers. There are still a few 9 month things he can squeeze into, but also some brands that he's already in 18 month stuff.

-Eats about every 3 hours during the day, and eats solids usually once a day at dinner time when we all sit down to eat. He's a very good eater, and doesn't seem to be picky at all yet, though I'm sure that won't last :)

-Night time sleep is still a little all over the place. A typical night is bed by 7:00, up around 2:00am to eat, and then again around 6:00am, and then back to sleep until around 7:00 or so. But like I said, this seems to vary as soon as we feel like we are in a routine. Every once and a while he throws in a long night of sleep and doesn't wake up to eat until 5:30am, but those are few and far between. Drew and I are both so ready to sleep again!

-He discovered his vocal cords this month!

Overall a happy and healthy little boy!

We're trying to work really hard with Claire on having good manners, and asking for things nicely (please, thank you, asking to take turns, etc...). She is obviously still a two year old, and needs to be reminded sometimes, so I often find myself  telling her "Let's ask nicely".

Enter our dinner conversation last night:

Claire: I want water!

Me: How do we ask?

Claire: Nicely!

Drew and I couldn't help but laugh.
At least we know she's listening?

Real Food!

At Hunter's 4 month appointment the doctor mentioned that we could start him on solids if we wanted to. I had mixed feelings about starting him early, but when a few people mentioned it helped with their babies reflux I thought we could give it a try.

He actually picked up on it much faster than Claire did and has been eating like a champ! It's been a few weeks now, and so far he's tried applesauce, banana, green beans, butternut squash, sweet potatoes and pumpkin. Applesauce and pumpkin are his favorites right now, and we have found that is does help a little bit with his reflux and overall fussiness.

Hunter has also been teething lately but his coordination isn't good enough to hold a teething toy in his mouth for long. I remember Claire used to be able to hold her cup with handles and loved to use it as a teething toy, and apparently Hunter feels the same way!

Pumpkin Patch 2013

Last weekend we had some nice sunny weather, so we decided to not procrastinate (like we do every year) and head to the pumpkin patch! It's the first year we've had no rainy weather!

Claire was much more enthusiastic about the pumpkin patch this year. Every time we went to Fred Meyer and we saw the pumpkins out front Claire would ask about going to the pumpkin patch, so she was pretty excited when the day finally came.
Hunter on the other hand was a little less than excited about the whole trip.

My parents were able to come along to!

Grandpa and Claire picking out pumpkins

We were trying to get a nice picture of the grandparents and grandkids, but of course Hunter decided this was the best time to spit up all over my mom's hand.

And here's Hunter; still thrilled about the whole experience. Oh well, maybe next year :)

4 Months!

Sweet little man in 4 months old!

How the heck did that happen?
Part of me can't believe it's only been 4 months. It feels like so long ago that we were at the hospital welcoming our sweet boy! Another part of me feels like time is flying by and every time I blink he looks more grown up.

Here are a few stats from his appointment today:
Weight: 20 lbs 2 oz (100th percentile)
Height: 2' 2.5" (94th percentile)
Head Circumference: 17.01" (89th percentile)

-Wearing 9 month clothes but is slowly and steadily moving into his 12 month clothing. The boy needs to slow down or he won't have any clothes left to wear!

-Wearing size 3 diapers. I went a little diaper crazy when amazon was having a AWESOME diaper sale, so even though he could probably easily go up to a size 4 I am squeezing him into the remaining size 3's

-Hunter got his first little cold from Claire this month. He actually handled it like a champ, so other than a bit of a stuffy nose it wasn't a big deal.

-We're about 40% nursing 60% formula. Since my milk supply is so low we usually end up being able to just nurse the 1st session, but have to supplement after nursing the next feeding. When he takes a bottle he drinks about 4 oz.

-Sleeping has been going much better! He's pretty consistently waking up only once a night, around 3:00 am, but we are starting to get more nights that he is sleeping all the way through till 6:00am! He takes a bath with Claire at 6:30 and is usually in bed for the night by 8:00 pm.
Naps are also getting better, and Hunter is doing a lot better being able to put himself to sleep without any crying!

-We officially have a roller! He's been rolling from tummy to back since he was a month old but he's now mastered the back to tummy. Little stinker can now roll himself around the room and get off his play mat. He's still a little slow on the roll but I just know any day now he's going to pick up speed and be rolling all over the house!

-The boy is now a giggle machine....but only for grandma apparently. Every time we see my mom he laughs and laughs, and then I try for days and get nothing! Don't get my wrong, I'm still getting lots of smiles but the kid is making me work hard to try and get a laugh out of him.

-He is loving himself in the mirror this month! Set him in front of it and he's all smiles :)

There you have it; a healthy little 4 month old! The doctor gave us the okay to start rice cereal and some purees if he seems interested since he's such a hungry little guy and the thickness may help with his reflux as well. I'm sure this next month will bring lots of adventures!

Family Time

We've been so busy almost every weekend this summer, so this last weekend we decided to just hang out as a family. It happened to be the weekend of the Sandy Oktoberfest, which is two blocks away from our house, so we thought it would be fun to walk over and check it out and grab some lunch from the food carts. Well it turned out to be kind of a bust on the food front, but Claire had a great time playing in the 'kindergarten' area. She got to play games and make crafts, but her favorite must have been the little mini golf area.

Hunter even got in on the action

After we came Claire wanted to go swimming, so we decided to fill the pool with some warm water from inside so Hunter could play too.

Here's my sweet little man. I mean that smirk, the elbow dimples, the rolls....How can you resist??

Going in the for the kiss

Oh the rolls!

While Hunter was taking his evening nap we decided to let Claire stay up a little late and make smores in her pajamas!

She wasn't too sure about eating the actual smore, but she loved eating her marshmallow off the stick.

We are so thankful for our house and being able to make it our own, but we've been so busy working on things that it often feels like we are forgetting to just slow down and enjoy life and the stage that we are in right now. It was such a great weekend of just slowing down and enjoying our little family.
