4 Months!

Sweet little man in 4 months old!

How the heck did that happen?
Part of me can't believe it's only been 4 months. It feels like so long ago that we were at the hospital welcoming our sweet boy! Another part of me feels like time is flying by and every time I blink he looks more grown up.

Here are a few stats from his appointment today:
Weight: 20 lbs 2 oz (100th percentile)
Height: 2' 2.5" (94th percentile)
Head Circumference: 17.01" (89th percentile)

-Wearing 9 month clothes but is slowly and steadily moving into his 12 month clothing. The boy needs to slow down or he won't have any clothes left to wear!

-Wearing size 3 diapers. I went a little diaper crazy when amazon was having a AWESOME diaper sale, so even though he could probably easily go up to a size 4 I am squeezing him into the remaining size 3's

-Hunter got his first little cold from Claire this month. He actually handled it like a champ, so other than a bit of a stuffy nose it wasn't a big deal.

-We're about 40% nursing 60% formula. Since my milk supply is so low we usually end up being able to just nurse the 1st session, but have to supplement after nursing the next feeding. When he takes a bottle he drinks about 4 oz.

-Sleeping has been going much better! He's pretty consistently waking up only once a night, around 3:00 am, but we are starting to get more nights that he is sleeping all the way through till 6:00am! He takes a bath with Claire at 6:30 and is usually in bed for the night by 8:00 pm.
Naps are also getting better, and Hunter is doing a lot better being able to put himself to sleep without any crying!

-We officially have a roller! He's been rolling from tummy to back since he was a month old but he's now mastered the back to tummy. Little stinker can now roll himself around the room and get off his play mat. He's still a little slow on the roll but I just know any day now he's going to pick up speed and be rolling all over the house!

-The boy is now a giggle machine....but only for grandma apparently. Every time we see my mom he laughs and laughs, and then I try for days and get nothing! Don't get my wrong, I'm still getting lots of smiles but the kid is making me work hard to try and get a laugh out of him.

-He is loving himself in the mirror this month! Set him in front of it and he's all smiles :)

There you have it; a healthy little 4 month old! The doctor gave us the okay to start rice cereal and some purees if he seems interested since he's such a hungry little guy and the thickness may help with his reflux as well. I'm sure this next month will bring lots of adventures!

Family Time

We've been so busy almost every weekend this summer, so this last weekend we decided to just hang out as a family. It happened to be the weekend of the Sandy Oktoberfest, which is two blocks away from our house, so we thought it would be fun to walk over and check it out and grab some lunch from the food carts. Well it turned out to be kind of a bust on the food front, but Claire had a great time playing in the 'kindergarten' area. She got to play games and make crafts, but her favorite must have been the little mini golf area.

Hunter even got in on the action

After we came Claire wanted to go swimming, so we decided to fill the pool with some warm water from inside so Hunter could play too.

Here's my sweet little man. I mean that smirk, the elbow dimples, the rolls....How can you resist??

Going in the for the kiss

Oh the rolls!

While Hunter was taking his evening nap we decided to let Claire stay up a little late and make smores in her pajamas!

She wasn't too sure about eating the actual smore, but she loved eating her marshmallow off the stick.

We are so thankful for our house and being able to make it our own, but we've been so busy working on things that it often feels like we are forgetting to just slow down and enjoy life and the stage that we are in right now. It was such a great weekend of just slowing down and enjoying our little family.

House Tour: Living Room

I finally got pictures taken of the living room! It's hard to get pictures when the kids hate to nap at the same time!

The living room is a definite work in progress, but we got the majority of the little things done for now.

Here is the room before we moved any of our stuff in:

And with our stuff and new paint:
The lighting makes the paint look beige, but it looks much more grey in person.
Eventually we'd like to take out the fireplace (Gasp! I know, but we never use it and it seems like a waste of space) and add some built in's along that whole wall (something like this). Right now it's just a big grey blob!

I think once we add the built in's and some accessories the room will look much brighter. Drew and I both loved the idea of grey walls, but I was hesitant at first since our couch is so dark. I love all the rooms I see on pinterest with light grey walls and gorgeous white couches, but with too small kids we needed to be practical, and a dark couch was the way to go for us. I think with the lighter pillows really help keep the space light and airy even with the big dark sectional.

We painted all the trim and refinished all the hardware on the doors in this room, and I can't believe what a difference it makes!

I made new cases for the throw pillows on the couch. The old covers seemed to dark and dull against the grey walls. The fabric for the pillow covers were found at Joann Fabrics.

Like I said, still a work in progress, but it's already feeling more like home with our new paint!

A crown for a princess

A few weeks ago Drew's sister and her husband was moving so we watched our nephew Henri while they moved. Henri brought some crowns for him and Claire, and they wore them pretty much the entire weekend together.
After Henri left Claire was still wearing her crown everywhere. Drew put her to bed one night, and when I went in to check on her this is what I found:

Me: "Did you let Claire wear her crown to bed?
Drew: "No, why?"
Me: " I think you should see this"

Well come to find out, Drew had taken her crown off and set it on top of her dresser. Turns out Claire got out of bed, moved her stool that she uses to get into bed over to her dresser and re crowned herself before falling asleep.

In the weeks to follow the crown was looking a little tattered after constant wearing and an accidental trip through the sprinkler.

I was beginning to think the crown obsession may last longer than the actual crown, so one day when both kids miraculously napped at the same time, I whipped her up a crown to wear using this tutorial.

The ponytail hanging out the back cracks me up!

I worried a little bit that it wouldn't be as accepted as the burger king crown, but thankfully Claire loved it! She's still wearing it all over the place.
My sweet little princess.....

3 Months!

Holy cow, he's 3 months already!
Weight: 19 lbs

This month has been a bit of a rough one with sleep and teething, so I'm rather thankful to be moving towards month 4.

-Now that we are getting to the end of the month sleeping is actually getting much better (I don't want to jinx it, but we're only up once a night around 3 am) but the beginning of the month?
Oh man, not fun.
I think part of the reason sleep has been so hard is because of Hunter's reflux. We borrowed a rock n play sleeper from some friends and it has helped a lot!
We were shoving a pillow under his crib mattress to keep him propped up but he wiggles so much while we sleeps that we often found him sideways at the bottom of the crib, so its nice to have him a bit more secure in the rock n play. Now I'm just dreading the day we have to break him of it!

- Hunter is starting to cut some bottom teeth; you can faintly see them under his gums. He has not been a happy camper about this, so I end up spending a lot of time rubbing his gums with my finger since it's the only way to calm him down and ease some of the pain.

-He has gotten so smiley this month! When he's not in pain from teething or cranky from not sleeping he is actually a pretty happy boy ;) I'm going to toot my own horn and say that I am still his favorite and I tend to get the most smiles, which of course I love!

-Hunter has moved up to size 3 diapers this month and is wearing a mix of 6 and 9 month clothing. The boy is a tank!

-Our day time routine is pretty non existent since his nights have been pretty unpredictable, but now that we seem to be getting into a better sleep pattern at night I'm hoping to have something a little more predictable during the day.

-Our nighttime schedule is still pretty much the same:
6:30 pm bath time with Claire
7:00 pm Eat (Hunter's favorite past time)
Between 8:00 pm- 9:00 pm bed time (this varies on his crankiness level)
3:00 am Eat (4-6oz bottle)
Between 5:45 am- 6:30 am Nurse and sleep in bed with mama until Claire wakes up.

-His head control is getting better, and we've just started to be able to put him in the bumbo for some short periods of time.

-I think we are super close to rolling from his back to him tummy. He has gotten almost all the way over  few times, so I know it's going to be any day now!
